Trends / May 20,2013

Those who are devoted to innovative, incredible furniture design of chairs, lamps, statement pieces and more, head to the Milan Furniture Fair every April. This is the place where trends begin, where many business exchanges occur and new concepts are put to trial. It is only now that some of the amazing pieces from the 2012 furniture fair are being offered for sale in Australia.

This year, colour palettes that are softer and more subtle will enjoy popularity. These 'grown up pastels'' are recognised for their refreshing effect on different spaces and are widely used because they effectively complement natural furniture. Also styles reminiscent of the 70s, raw finishes and quilting will be widely featured. Hints of aged gold, bronze and pewter will be seen in contemporary designs. Blue is set to be the dominant colour in all its shades, from rich royal blues to very soft and pale baby blue. The colour will be featured on lounge suites, side table and even modular bunk beds. As much as possible this year, many designers have opted to create pieces made from natural materials and processes of manufacturing. Some of the most popular materials used will be: steel, glass, timber and porcelain and marble finishes will also be widely used.
